Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Today marks the 20th year of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Today marks the 20th year of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity during the month of October. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is an opportunity to reflect on how we can stay safe and secure online.

The State of Alaska (SOA) will be participating in Cybersecurity Awareness Month with an awareness campaign targeting phishing.

“We know that phishing – the attempt to trick employees into giving out private information or taking a dangerous action – is a common tactic used by cybercriminals. However, there are some simple steps that can help us stay safe online,” said Dan Monarch, Chief Information Security Officer.

State of Alaska employees will receive a total of four emails that will share weekly tips on recognizing and avoiding phishing attempts. An informational website is also live that includes helpful videos, interactive links, and educational materials related to phishing.

“As public servants, we are often the target of sophisticated phishing attempts. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a great reminder that we can work together to make our digital environment safer for everyone,” said Monarch.
